Theatre NO99

Theatre NO99 was founded in 2004 and produced its first play in 2005.  Three to four new plays are produced each season. Tiit Ojasoo-Ene-Liis Semper and the troupe often cooperate to create plays by improvising scenes and texts using the ideas of the directors as reference points. The production ultimately takes shape through these improvisations. Such productions figure prominently in the theatre’s repertoire.

Several productions have been notably successful internationally: they have participated in around fifty international festivals and venues, including Wiener Festwochen, Cut & Paste 2 (HAU, Berlin), NET (Moscow),  Baltic House (St. Petersburg), Politik im Freien Theater (Cologne), AUAWIRLEBEN (Bern), KONTAKT (Torun), Tampere Theatre Festival, Theaterformen, Festival d’Avignon and so on.
Tiit Ojasoo and Ene-Liis Semper have been working together as directors for the past twelve years. During that period, they have brought dozens of productions to the stage. Together they are the founders, creative directors and the only in-house directors of Theatre NO99. They have repeatedly earned awards for Estonia’s best director, best stage production and best stage designer. They have been praised for the explosive energy of their actors, the courage to address socially and politically relevant issues and the aesthetic forms they use that are questioning the boundaries of performativity.

In recent years, Theatre NO99 has coproduced productions with Münchner Kammerspiele, KVS in Brussels and Lyric Hammersmith in London. Tiit Ojasoo and Ene-Liis Semper have also repeatedly worked at Thalia Theater in Hamburg.
